Since Daniel and I have a new found appreciation for the complexities of gardening, we decided to visit the Norfolk Botanical Gardens last Saturday. I used to go there with my family as a kid and always I remembered it to be a good time. I dont think much has changed at the gardens.
After taking a small stroll through the Asian inspired "Zen" garden, Daniel and I were starving and decided to bee-line it straight to the cafe. It was awesome how the visitors center and cafe looked like they fell straight out of 1972. I loved the peaking roof line and the use of small tiles on the exterior that seemed more fit for a dated bathroom floor. I wish I had gotten a picture of the interior because it was pretty cool too, alot of aqua-marine.
After refreshments we moved into the greenhouse. It was quite tiny and humid but it was one of my favorite things there. I loved the exotic trees and flowers. They offer a Hothouse yoga class in the greenhouse on the weekdays, its a shame I have to work!
After the greenhouse we checked out the rest of the gardens. The place was quite large and somehow we managed to not get a map. We meandered for quite awhile through the park and we tried to get to an area called the "Enchanted Forest" but we never made it. It was probably for the best though because I have a feeling I might have been disappointed. I was expecting to see animatronics that looked like they might have come from the Disneys version of Snow White and somehow I doubt that was going to be the case, it was probably just a forest but the Snow White stuff would have made it Enchanted.
We did get a chance to see a few animals while we were there. The park has three bald eagles nesting and we actually saw one of them. We stumbled upon a black snake which leaped down the side of a wall to get away from Daniel. Several turtles, squirrels, birds, geese, fish and lizzards too. Here are a few pictures:
