Check out these MELONS!

We didnt get much of a welcome wagon with our new house but some guy driving by decided to give us these. Its a shame that Daniel and I arent too fond of watermelon. We took them to be nice.
Oh and in case you are wondering what that ugly salmon colored surface is that they are sitting on, thats the color of our countertops in the kitchen. Lovely, arent they? Probably circa 1956.

Too much time on our hands at work

This is what an art department does when there is time to kill. And of course the horse is mine, I dont know where Erkle came from.

Why I hate Virginia Beach #1

Ok if anyone knows me at all, they know that I can't stand Viriginia Beach. So I am going to start a count of reasons why I hate the Beach on here.
#1) This morning I was driving to work which is in Virginia Beach, and I noticed that there were about six or seven cops pulling people over in the lanes leaving the Beach and absolutely no cops in the lanes going to Virginia Beach. Its the start of Labor Day weekend and Virginia Beach has to get its qouta of speeding tickets. So instead of interferring with the tourists, they prey on the locals leaving town. What kind of crap is that?

Lets back this up....

Since no one saw the pics from our mini honeymoon to a bed in breakfast in the country of Charlottesville where we went wine tasting at various wineries and visited Monticello, here they are. It was so beautiful. The large house is the bed and breakfast and the blue farmhouse is where we stayed. The place was awesome and the innkeepers were so nice!

Daniel and I taming the wild life....

Along with the house....

Along with the house came the yard. Its a tiny yard and rather quite manageable, but Daniel and I are still getting used to getting up at a decent hour on Saturday and Sunday to devote time to it. The first weekend we were here, Daniel chopped some sort of bush down in the front garden that I swore was supposed to be there but he tried to gaurentee me that it was a weed. It didnt really matter because it grew back very quickly and bigger than ever, I think that means it was a weed:)

Here is a picture of the very first fruit of our labor. Little did we know that there would be more than we could handle after that.
It seems like every other day since we have been here we have had a thunderstorm. Last weekend Daniel tried to finish the lawn in lightening speed before the bottom fell out. Right after he cut the last blade of grass, it started pouring. I liked the way the water was spilling out of the gutters so I took a puicture.

For Starters

I guess I will start this with the biggest, scariest and most expensive undertaking in my life---the house. Daniel and I could have gone with everyone's advice and bought something newer, shinier and less problematic but instead it was love at first sight with this 1932 Bungalow in the very unconventional city of Portsmouth. The hardwood floors have seen better days, the wood siding seems like it might be high maintenance and I dont even know whats up with the fuse box but we love it. I cant wait to get some porch furniture and cooler weather so we can enjoy the front porch, oh and a little grass in the backyard would be nice too.

Welcome! Since Daniel and I have so many friends and family that are so far away (and I hate Myspace), I have decided to start this blog as a chronicle of our lives as a married couple and the rigors of our first home owner experience.

I also want to use this blog as a place to post pictures of art projects, photography and paintings as they are being worked on in hopes that it will help me to actually finish something and discourage the artist block that I seem to endure frequently. Please feel free to post any comments I Hope it doesnt bore you too much!
